![]() Did you know that Guadalupe School began as a small English tutoring group for adult learners a little over 50 years ago? That's how it all started - and today, the Adult Education program is as robust as ever. Last year, 95% of Adult Education students made measurable progress, and 11 students passed the US citizenship test. This year the program has expanded to include even more vocational opportunities, including more CNA certification classes and cooking classes. The continued growth and success of Adult Education relies on a steady flow of community volunteers. They are the driving force behind the life-changing methods that help adult students learn English quickly and effectively. Volunteers do not have to speak another language or have prior teaching experience. They are provided with prepared lesson materials and aided by the presence of professional staff. They also only have to commit to 2 hour tutoring sessions, one night a week, from 7 - 9 pm. We are asking YOU to step up and become an Adult Education volunteer. It is one of the most rewarding volunteer opportunities available in the community, and we promise you will make incredible friends. This summer, Jake Winters, an Adult Education volunteer, was recognized at a Real Salt Lake soccer game through the American Express "Heroes Among Us" program. Jake is a medical student who has found a way to fit a 2 hour tutoring session into his already busy week. Watch the video below to hear more about his experience, and why he loves the Adult Education program.
