Preschool FAQ's

It's week 3 of our summer blog series, where we're taking an in-depth look at each of our programs and how they work together to transform lives through education! This week, find out how our preschool program for 3 and 4 year olds is uniquely Guadalupe.

What is the Preschool program?

Our preschool program is a half-day program that is aligned with the curriculum of the charter school Kindergarten (more on Charter School next week!). A balance of learning choices and teacher instruction are used to teach pre-Kinders the alphabet, counting, shapes, and other skills that will become the base of the rest of their school careers.

What makes this preschool program unique?
  • Our preschoolers can receive free transportation from their front door to and from the school each day.
  • Classes are kept small, with each room having 3 adults to care for 20-25 children.
  • Preschool students regularly get assessed on their development and performance, so that our highly qualified teachers can address any difficulties before they become real issues.
What is the coolest thing about Preschool?
The best part about the preschool program is that it keeps learning fun! During choice time, students can draw letters, practice math games on the computer, or count manipulative like colored dinosaurs. It definitely feels more like play than work, but it keeps littles engaged and makes education a positive experience, and that's how those growing brains learn best.

How do I get involved?

Want to know how you can enroll in or support our preschool program?
You can apply to become part of our preschool program when you visit our application page here.

On the other hand, if you don't have little ones, there are other ways to get involved with Preschool. Volunteer your time helping teachers in the classroom if you want to see where all the fun happens.

Or, if you can't volunteer, but feel moved to help out, our preschool teachers always have needs for the following items which can be dropped off at school anytime between 9 am and 4 pm.
- Clorox wipes and hand sanitizer
- Sensory toys
- Puzzles
- Age appropriate books
- Age appropriate art supplies

Continuing our summer series, we're taking an in-depth look at each of our programs and how they work together to transform lives through education! This week, find out how Toddler Beginnings transitions 1 and 2 year olds from the home to the school environment and how you can get involved!

What is the Toddler Beginnings program?

Toddler Beginnings is an enriched daycare program that acts as a child's first experience in a school setting, as they transition from the home environment.  Children attend Monday-Thursday to play and learn in the stimulating and little-friendly classroom.

What makes this daycare program unique?
  • A balance between student-centered choices and teacher-centered instruction helps ease the transition from home to preschool.
  • Our teachers are highly qualified. Lead teacher, Bridget Hogan, holds a Bachelor's degree and teaching license, while assistants must complete a Child Development Associate's.
  • Toddlers receive breakfast, lunch, and a healthy snack daily.
What is the coolest thing about Toddler Beginnings?
The coolest thing about Toddler Beginnings has got to be the classrooms! Everything is miniature-sized, just perfect for toddlers exploring their world from a lower vantage point. It is colorful, and inviting just like a home, and is full of fun toys, books, and sensory activities that make learning feel like play. It's our favorite part of giving tours of the school, and a pretty cool place to hang out too.

How do I get involved?

Do little sponges eager to learn make you want to be involved at Guadalupe?
Students of our Toddler Beginnings filter in strictly from our In-Home program, so there is no application. You can, however, apply to become part of our In-Home program when you visit our application page here. See last week's blog for more on In-Home.

On the other hand, if you don't have little ones, there are other ways to get involved with Toddler Beginnings. Volunteer your time in that super cool classroom if your schedule allows.

Or, if you can't volunteer, but feel moved to help out, our toddler teachers always have needs for the following items which can be dropped off at school anytime between 9 am and 4 pm.
- Diapers and baby wipes
- Playdough and age appropriate Playdough tools
- Books
- Age appropriate art and music supplies
- Tools for our sandbox

This summer, we're taking an in-depth look at each of our programs and how they work together to transform lives through education! If you've been thinking about getting involved in a program as a student, staff, or volunteer, be sure to follow this series! This week, we start where our education starts, in the In-Home program.

What is the In-Home program?

Guadalupe School's In-Home program provides weekly, one-hour home visits to families with children from prenatal to age three. Through the use of the "Parents as Teachers" curriculum, a parent educator supports and encourages each parent to be their child's first and most important teacher.

What makes this home visiting program unique?
  • Parents can participate in monthly group meetings to meet and support other new parents.
  • Our parent educators use community partnerships to refer families to any services they may need beyond education.
  • We have four bilingual parent educators who build strong connections with families in the program.
What is the coolest thing about In-Home?
According to program director, Moira Rampton her favorite part of the In-Home program is the continuity and foundation it provides for the other four programs. Unlike other preschool and home visiting programs, our children can stay in the Guadalupe programs from birth to sixth grade! Moira says it's fun watching the babies she and her staff visit grow up and become bright, ambitious young adults.

How do I get involved?

There are lots of ways to get involved in our In-Home program! To apply for your child, visit our application page here.

Or, if you'd like to donate to this unique and helpful program, our parent educators currently have needs for the following items which can be dropped off at school anytime between 9 am and 4 pm.
- Diapers and baby wipes
- Age appropriate books such as "board books"
- Peg puzzles
- Baby blankets
- 1 and 2 inch three ring binders
